Choosing marine collagen: How to read the label
You’re thinking about trying marine collagen, and you’re faced with bottles, powders, and tubs displaying big numbers. What are you actually comparing? Start with the label. It tells you what’s inside, how much to take each day, and whether the format works for you.
Start with the source
Marine collagen is collagen of marine origin. Check the label or product information for the specific source. The collagen in BLUVITAL The Gold Reserve comes from fish. The product is therefore neither vegetarian nor vegan, and it contains fish, a food allergen.
If you have a fish allergy, do not use BLUVITAL. The word “hydrolyzed” does not automatically make a product containing fish suitable for someone with a fish allergy.
Compare the amount of collagen per daily serving
A 25 mL shot does not automatically contain 25 grams of collagen. Milliliters measure the volume of the liquid; milligrams or grams measure the amount of an ingredient.
One 25 mL BLUVITAL shot contains 15,000 mg of collagen. That’s 15 grams. A box of ten shots therefore contains 150 grams of collagen in total.
When comparing other products, always use the recommended daily serving. Check whether a number refers to collagen, a blend of ingredients, or the entire package. The amount alone doesn’t tell you what results you might experience.

Choose a format that fits your day
With a powder, you do the mixing—for example, into a drink. A ready-to-drink shot is already measured. BLUVITAL has a crisp apple flavor and needs no mixing: shake, open, and drink as directed on the label.
That difference in convenience may help you decide. Being a liquid or a powder is not, by itself, evidence that a product works better.
Check the other ingredients, too
A collagen product may also contain vitamins, minerals, flavorings, and sweeteners. Read the full ingredient list and check the amounts per serving.
The Gold Reserve contains 120 mg of vitamin C per shot, among other ingredients. Vitamin C contributes to normal collagen formation for the normal function of skin.
“Sugar-free” and “no added sugars” do not mean the same thing. Under EU rules, the sugar-free nutrition claim requires a product to contain no more than 0.5 grams of sugars per 100 grams or 100 mL. A sugar-free product may still contain sweeteners. BLUVITAL is a dietary supplement with sweeteners.
Compare prices using the same unit
To compare prices fairly, choose a consistent unit—for example, the price per daily serving or per 10 grams of collagen.
A €29.95 box of BLUVITAL contains ten shots, so each shot costs approximately €3.00. The box contains 150 grams of collagen in total, which works out to approximately €2.00 per 10 grams of collagen.
Calculation: €29.95 ÷ 150 grams × 10 grams, including VAT and excluding shipping. For one box with no additional discount, the total with standard shipping is €34.90 to the Netherlands (€3.49 per shot) or €35.90 to Belgium (€3.59 per shot). Include shipping costs when comparing shots and powder. Amounts checked on October 16, 2026; see the current product price and shipping charges. Prices and offers may change. The calculation per 10 grams compares the amount of collagen; it does not account for flavor, packaging, or other ingredients.
Your checklist before ordering
- Is the source clearly stated?
- How many grams of collagen are in the recommended daily serving?
- What other ingredients and allergens are listed on the label?
- Does the format fit your day?
- Have you compared the price per serving on the same basis?
- Have you read the directions and warnings?
What does “hydrolyzed” mean?
Hydrolysis breaks longer protein chains into smaller pieces called peptides. Read more in Hydrolyzed collagen and collagen peptides: What’s the difference?.
